Why do plumbing quotes vary so much?

A lot of people are surprised at how different plumbing quotes can be for what looks like the same job. Sometimes the difference can be hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Part of that comes down to materials and labour rates, but a big factor is how the business actually quotes jobs in the first place.

Some plumbing businesses have a structured quoting process where they regularly review material prices, look back at previous projects, improve efficiencies over time and build quotes based on real world experience. Others are quoting off rough estimates, guesswork or outdated pricing.

That can create massive differences in pricing.

The reality is, plumbing material costs have moved around a lot in recent years, especially with products tied to oil and petrochemical manufacturing like PVC pipe and fittings. Labour costs, fuel, freight and compliance requirements have also increased across the industry.

But materials are usually not the biggest portion of a plumbing job. Labour is often the largest cost. Having skilled plumbers who can diagnose problems properly, work efficiently and avoid mistakes is what really helps keep projects running smoothly and pricing fair.

A cheaper quote is not always cheaper in the long run if corners are cut, the wrong products are used, or the job takes twice as long to complete.

At All Done Plumbing & Drainage, we take a practical approach to quoting. We review supplier pricing, learn from previous projects and continually improve how we price and deliver work across Bass Coast and South Gippsland. The goal is simple, provide fair pricing while still delivering quality work that lasts.

Our strong relationship with our suppliers assists us in obtaining excellent pricing on behalf of our customers.
